States tell DOJ to scrap rule that would slow bar discipline cases

A California-led coalition says the federal proposal would create serious conflicts with states’ prerogatives to discipline their own lawyers.

A coalition of 21 states and the District of Columbia is urging the DOJ to withdraw a proposed rule that would let the department step in before state bar authorities move ahead with ethics complaints against DOJ lawyers.
