CMS proposes CLIA modernization updates amid laboratory overhaul

CLIA looks to expand virtual access, update lab staffing rules, and modernize oversight as CMS and CDC review regulations.

To revise several key components of Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) – the federal framework governing clinical laboratory testing – the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released a proposed rule on October 8.
