SEC proposes wide-ranging exemption plan for crypto offerings

The proposed rule would give crypto issuers two routes to raise funds without registering an offering and establish a process in which tokens could become detached from investment contracts.

The SEC has proposed a new regulatory framework entitled Regulation Crypto Assets that would allow issuers to raise funds without registering their crypto offerings with the agency.

The rule can be divided into two parts:

  • creating two major registration exemption pathways subject to new reporting and disclosure requirements for startups
