Treasury proposes US stablecoin definitions under GENIUS Act

The proposal defines when issuers and digital asset service providers would be subject to certain US restrictions.

The Treasury has proposed rules defining when the issuance, offer, or sale of a payment stablecoin takes place in the United States under the GENIUS Act.

Those definitions will particularly matter considering several of the GENIUS Act’s upcoming licensing and distribution restrictions:

  • Beginning January 18, 2027, a person will
  • Beginning July
