The USA Patriot Act requires federally insured credit unions to implement a Customer Identification Program (CIP) as part of their compliance with the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA).

At a minimum, the credit union’s CIP must meet the requirements of FinCEN regulation Section 1020.220, which outlines the CIP requirements for banks, including:

  • Member identification information.
  • Identity verification procedures.
  • Recordkeeping.
  • Comparison with government lists.
  • Member notice.
