Latvia strengthens financial resilience with offline card payments solution

Cards issued by four major banks will enable retail payments to function in the event of internet or mobile services disruptions.

Latvia has introduced offline card payment capabilities at selected retailers, enabling consumers to purchase essential goods and services when internet or mobile networks are out of function.

The move was initiated by Latvijas Bankas, the national central bank and financial services supervisor, in cooperation with merchants and critical service providers,
