Aesculap Implant Systems to pay $38.5m to settle False Claims Act violation allegations

The US Department of Justice (DOJ) has announced a $38.5m settlement with Aesculap Implant Systems to resolve allegations that the Pennsylvania-based medical device company sold knee replacement devices it knew would fail prematurely at a higher-than-acceptable rate, resulting in false claims to Medicare and Medicaid.
