CFTC mulls 24/7 trading and perpetual contracts for energy markets

Proposed market reform of energy futures contracts raises the question of whether oil can be traded like bitcoin.

The CFTC is seeking public comment on the extension of standard futures contracts to 24/7 trading and the possible listing of perpetual contracts tied to physically delivered or storable energy commodities, such as crude oil. The agency has not yet proposed a formal rule.
