Firms must keep records in a format that can be stored securely and accessed by regulators in the future. Recordkeeping systems must ensure that:

  • Regulators can quickly access records and reconstruct every key stage of a transaction.
  • Any changes or corrections to records can be identified, and the original information remains visible.
  • Records cannot be improperly altered or manipulated.
  • Data can be efficiently analyzed, including through IT tools, especially when dealing with large volumes of information.
  • Recordkeeping requirements are met regardless of the technology or system used.

In addition, investment firms must maintain at least the records listed in Annex I of the Regulation, as applicable to their business activities.
