SEC proposes rescission of longstanding shareholder proposal rule

The SEC proposed to end its oversight of corporate shareholder proposals on topics like carbon emissions and executive ​pay.

Removing itself from the proxy solicitation process, the SEC is issuing a proposal to rescind its longstanding rule governing shareholder proposals. Now, the agency is leaving the determination about whether a shareholder proposal may be properly placed on a proxy statement to the states and individual companies and shareholders.
