NY bill would crack down on chatbots impersonating licensed professionals

The first-of-its-kind regulation could influence other states to adopt similar rules in the areas of healthcare, mental health, legal services, and financial advising.

New York State legislators have moved closer to regulating AI chatbots that provide advice under the guise of licensed professionals.

Senate Bill S7263, recently approved by the Senate Internet & Technology Committee, would prohibit AI systems from presenting themselves as doctors, lawyers, therapists, or other credentialed experts.
