New CMA rule lets publishers opt out of Google’s AI search features

The ruling sets a precedent that AI features built on third-party content are subject to regulatory oversight and publisher consent.

A landmark new conduct requirement on Google, giving publishers the power to opt out of having their content used to fuel AI features in search results, has been imposed by the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA).
