Sir Ian Cheshire announced as preferred candidate to chair Ofcom

Announcement comes at the same time the government has stepped up efforts to ensure the online safety and wellbeing of UK individuals, especially children.

Sir Ian Cheshire has been announced as the UK government’s preferred candidate to be appointed Chair of Ofcom, the UK’s independent communications watchdog.

His four-year term will start after a parliamentary hearing. Current chair Lord Michael Grade’s term concludes at the end of April 2026.
