Account takeovers surge 78% as fraudsters target digital identity

AI has vastly lowered the cost and complexity of launching online attacks, new study by commerce protection firm Signifyd finds.

Ecommerce fraud is no longer constrained by traditional limits, Signifyd stresses in its latest State of Fraud Report 2026. Widely available AI tools are fundamentally shifting the economics of online fraud, lowering the cost and technical skill required to mount an attack while letting criminals operate at speed and scale.
