GAO report reveals ACA exchanges vulnerable to fraud

Auditors used fake identities to obtain ACA coverage and found significant instances of Social Security number misuse.

Federal auditors from the Congressional Government Accountability Office (GAO) used fake identities to successfully obtain Affordable Care Act (ACA) coverage worth about $2,300 a month for four fake applicants from November through December 2024 – even though none had submitted required information on citizenship and income.
