Mícheál O’Keeffe has been appointed Director of Policy and International at the Central Bank of Ireland. In the role, he will be a member of the Central Bank’s Senior Leadership Team and will lead financial regulation developments both domestically and internationally
O’Keeffe will start the new role on June 23. He is currently working as a Senior Advisor to Minister Paschal Donohoe in his role as President of the Eurogroup.
He started his career at the European Central Bank, working as an economist and supervisor. He has since then worked as Chief of Staff and Counsellor to the Governor at the Central Bank of Ireland, and Senior Advisor to the Deputy Governor – Monetary and Financial Stability.
“I am delighted to announce the appointment of Mícheál to the role of Director of Policy and International. Along with his background in economics, supervision and policy, and his prior leadership role in the Central Bank as Chief of Staff, Mícheál brings with him a wealth of international experience, most notably in Brussels and Frankfurt,” said Governor Gabriel Makhlouf.
“I know he will make an important contribution to this role, as the Bank continues to deliver on its mandate for the people of Ireland.”
Mícheál O’Keeffe holds a BA from University College Dublin, an MPhil from the University of Cambridge, an M.Sc., and M.Res and PhD from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).
