Millicom settles FCPA charges, receives reduced penalty

Millicom received a 50% discount on the possible criminal penalty it was facing, thanks to its extensive cooperation and remediation efforts.

Last week, the US Justice Department (DOJ) settled Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) charges against Millicom International Cellular SA, a telecommunications and media company focused on emerging markets with headquarters in Luxembourg and a principal place of business in Florida.

Millicom will pay $118.2m and enter into a two-year deferred-prosecution
