CMS initiates ‘major’ crackdown on healthcare fraud

The initiative includes a nationwide moratorium for durable medical equipment (DMEPOS) suppliers and a freeze on $259.5m in federal Medicaid funding in Minnesota.

A new Medicare and Medicaid fraud initiative to “protect patients and taxpayers and improve affordability” is on its way.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced the initiative in the last week of February. It will include a nationwide moratorium on Medicare enrollment for certain durable medical equipment,
