Police Scotland fined and reprimanded for mishandling personal data

Lack of adequate policies and procedures cited as reasons for failure to prevent the release of sensitive personal information to a third party.

The UK’s information watchdog has fined the Police Service of Scotland £66,000 ($88,000) and issued a Reprimand for “serious failures in the handling of sensitive personal information.”

The enforcement action relates to an incident in 2021, where the police accessed and downloaded the entire contents of an individual’s phone after the person
